Between pearls & threads

Materials

Many of the materials I work with have had a life before.
Found in old jewelry boxes, passed down through inheritances, or discovered in small, forgotten collections.
I mainly work with second-hand and vintage materials, because there is already so much beauty in this world that deserves to be carried on.

I am especially mindful when it comes to stone beads and freshwater pearls. Their extraction and cultivation are often tied to impacts on nature and living beings that don’t feel right to me, especially as I live a vegan lifestyle.
Plastic beads are not an option for me. I want to work with materials that feel real. That are made to last. That’s why I recycle.

I take apart old necklaces and rescue their beads, rethreading them and combining them with embroidery.
This way, each piece is created from materials that have long been part of this world, continued, rather than newly produced.

When you wear one of these pieces, you’re not only choosing a handmade one of a kind.
You’re also supporting a more conscious, slower way of creating, and giving materials with a story the chance to be carried on.

And maybe that feels just a little more whimsical.
